The Great Bug Hunt

This morning for our preschool lesson we learned about bugs... my least favorite creatures by far. But Cameron is fascinated with them and loves to find them so I figured it would be a good lesson for him. I found some word sheets with different parts of the bug (thorax, legs, antennas, etc) for us to talk about and look at. We painted thumbprint lady bugs and he thought that was a lot of fun too. Then did a few worksheets and we were off to the bug hunt! Before we left I had to go down to the basement to grab something and how ironic (and a little gross) is it that there was this big black grasshopper thing sitting at the bottom of my stairs?! So I yelled to Cameron to bring me the bug catching jar and we snagged it up! I cant quite get over that this nasty thing was in my house lol but it made his day!
Cameron searching in the plants for bugs....
We found this little tiny slug and talked about it for a little while. We chatted about how some bugs have hard shells like the grasshopper and they are fast, while other bugs are soft and slow. Sadly for this little guy Cameron got a little excited at one point and kinda squished him.... I know, horrible. =P
We decided against putting the slug in with the grasshopper, for one at this point he was squished... and for two I explained that bigger bugs eat little bugs so Cameron didnt want to do that. So here is our lone yucky grasshopper....
We started looking under rocks for bugs now, and good thing we did! They were everywhere! We found a few little slugs and then we stumbled upon a big group of rolly polly bugs (aka potato bugs). Cameron loved that they would roll up into a ball when they were scared and then straighten out and crawl around on his hand. We put 3-4 of these in our jar :)
Here is our jar with the grasshopper and the rolly pollys....
Next we spotted this BIG spider! It was a frail little thing but quite large in size. It was really fast too and I wasnt about to pick it up... so we didnt catch it. But we watched it for a little while crawling around on the rocks.
Cameron observing the bugs we caught when we were all done. After we finished we went inside and painted the bugs we saw. Well, I painted them and Cameron just painted =P It was a fun morning!

Under The Sea - Preschool Lesson

This morning we had a lesson on animals that live in the ocean. He loves these types of things, anything to do with animals he gets so excited! He loved talking about all the different animals that live in the ocean, crabs, seahorses, fish, sharks, etc. He told me his favorite sea animal is the crab. He loves crabs! Back home he used to go out in my inlaws backyard or go to the beach with my parents and search for crabs under rocks. He used to get so excited when he would find one, he would pick them up and collect them. After we talked about all the animals and did some fun activities we made a few sea animals of our own. We made a fish first and then made a crab and an octopus. He had a lot of fun making these. I let him choose the colors and cut out the peices needed, except they circle eyes and the crab pinchers I did those. But we have been practicing cutting shapes and so I just drew things out for him and then he cut them. He painted them all and we put them together. He asked me if we could make more another day so I guess he liked it!

Pre-Halloween Dress Up - A Birthday Party

Yesterday my cousin Amanda threw a fun Halloween Birthday party for her son Nathaniel who just turned 4! Happy Birthday Nathaniel!!! We had fun going and fun getting to dress up before Halloween too. Cameron is going to be a "space man" as he calls it and Connor is going to be a monkey this year. They had lots of fun! Thanks Amanda for the invite!

Car Show

Yesterday we took the boys to a car show close by our house over at Jordan Landing. Bret always seems to know when and where to find local car shows so since we had no other plans in the morning we decided to go. Cameron loves cars so he was in heaven. Connor loves cars too but doesnt get really excited by life size ones yet. He was more excited by all the dogs at the show! He loves dogs! It turned out to be a fun little family adventure :)
This photo below of Cameron was him showing me how BIG the engine of the Camaro was lol.

Cornbellys

On Friday we met up with Diane and Richard and their kids at Cornbellys over at Thanksgiving Point for a little Halloween fun! Since we have never lived here before we have never been before so we were in for a treat. I knew the kiddos would have fun and they certainly did! They had all kinds of fun things to do... Bouncy houses, mini corn mazes, wooden trucks/toys to play on, a cow train to ride... the list could go on and on. We planned for the perfect day too because the weather was beautiful! We had such a blast I think this is going to have to be a yearly tradition while we live here!

Volcano! - Preschool Lesson

Yesterday Cameron and I did a lesson on volcanos! We learned that they are mountains that sometimes errupt in lava and smoke. He of course thought that was pretty cool. We talked about how the lava is down deep in the ground where we cant see it and when it errupts it goes up through the mountain and blows out the top. I told him that Mt Ranier back by our old house was a volcano and he said he wanted it to errupt... I then had to explain that its dangerous when volcanos errupt and people get hurt sometimes. It was a good lesson. So our fun part came when we got to make our own volcano! I found this little volcano at a gift shop a while back and picked it up just for this reason. We put the baking soda in and he poured in the vinegar and ta-dah! instant volcano. We had to of done this at least 20 times, he kept wanting to do it more. After this we put it in a glass full of water and watched it bubble like an underwater volcano. He really enjoyed this lesson to say the least :)

Halloween Cookies

The other day we made some creepy halloween cookies :) Cameron and Connor had fun! Cameron enjoyed putting all the worms, eyeballs, bones and monster fingers on them and then eating them, and Connor just plain enjoyed eating them! He put a few things on his cookies but mostly he just ate whatever I gave him =P I love holiday fun!
